Each post receives an overall ranking score based on these signals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Facebook also lets users customize what they see by providing feedback options like <em>Show more<\/em>, <em>Show less<\/em>, and <em>Not interested<\/em>. Each section has its own algorithms which determine how content is organized and appears for each user.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Facebook uses thousands of \u201cranking signals\u201d to predict what content users will find valuable, and hopefully engage with. They categorize these signals into three categories: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Data specific to you<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Data specific to the Post being ranked, and<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Data specific to you and the Post being ranked.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So, what does this mean? Not only does Facebook gather information about what users you follow and what content you interact with, but the content formats, what the posts contain, who is posting, etc. The four most important ranking signals are:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Which user posted the content: <\/strong>You are more likely to see content from those people and pages you follow or have engaged with before.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The content type:<\/strong> Whichever content types you interact with the most, will appear more in your feed.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Post engagement and interactions: <\/strong>Facebook will show posts with high engagement, including those from friends or mutual friends.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Relevancy to other users<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Update_Facebooks_Algorithm_Just_Got_Smarter_October_2025\"><\/span>Update: Facebook\u2019s Algorithm Just Got Smarter (October 2025)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Meta has recently announced a Facebook algorithm change that focuses on Reels and gives users more control over their feeds. This update builds on Facebook\u2019s ranking principles but puts a stronger emphasis on <strong>relevance, freshness, and engagement quality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The updated \u201crecommendation engine\u201d promises to make feeds feel more personal. Users can now tap \u201cNot Interested\u201d on a Reel or flag a comment to train the algorithm about what they&nbsp;like. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another major improvement:<strong> the algorithm now prioritizes newer content<\/strong>, surfacing up to 50% more Reels uploaded the same day users scroll. And to boost discoverability, Meta introduced AI-powered search suggestions in the Reels tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Creators benefit from these changes, too. However, this also features recommendations based on your interests and previous engagements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meta\u2019s team works to improve the algorithms so users can find more value when on the app.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Facebook\u2019s algorithm 2026 goes through four steps to gather information and determine relevancy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>These four steps include:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Inventory:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The first question the Facebook algorithm asks is, \u201cWhat content has been posted by friends and publishers?\u201d This records data on each user\u2019s recent app usage and history, based on those friends, Pages, and Groups they follow.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Signals:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>These are the same signals as above, which differ per each content piece. This also considers more minute details, such as the viewing environment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Predictions:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The algorithm predicts how likely users are to engage with a post, from the collected data, such as how likely they are to comment on a post, watch a video to completion, share content, etc.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Score:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the algorithm creates a relevancy score, representing how likely users will be interested in that post. In this last step, the algorithm makes further predictions and calculates possibilities. The higher the score, the higher the rank it receives in your feed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-customize-the-feed-algorithm-nbsp\">How to customize the feed algorithm&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Facebook offers a few customization options to influence the algorithm and further personalize your feed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-add-favorites\">Add favorites<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The first option is to add up to 30 favorites, people, or Pages, so that content from these users appears at the top of your feed. To do this, click on the three dots in the upper right corner of a post, and select <strong>\u201cShow more\u201d or \u201cShow less\u201d.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also click <strong>\u201cHide ad\u201d <\/strong>in which Facebook will ask the reason for hiding this ad. This uses a <a href=\"https:\/\/transparency.meta.com\/features\/explaining-ranking\/fb-reels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><strong>\u201ctwo recommender\u201d<\/strong><\/a> system, in which one recommender displays Reels in your feed, and the other determines the order of these Reels.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What input signals do these recommenders use?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Watch time<\/strong>: The algorithm monitors which videos you watch and for how long, so it can rank Reels that you are more likely to watch to completion.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Engagement<\/strong>: Based on your previous Reels engagement, and how others have engaged with the content, those Reels with more views, likes, comments, and shares will appear at the top of feeds.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Content quality<\/strong>: The algorithm considers video quality, captioning, audio, hashtags, descriptions, and other enhancement features to determine how interesting the content will be to users.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Account activity<\/strong>: Those accounts that stay active on the platform and continue to receive high engagement will be rewarded in the algorithm.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-customize-the-reels-algorithm\">How to customize the Reels algorithm<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>What can you customize in your Facebook Reels feed?
